Little White Things
She told a little white lie
Not a criminal yet, she kept her head high
She was out on a limb but steady, excited and inspired
So she kept on going
She saw a little white moon
Its dim face shivering in water, all pale and roughhewn
She looked at it, like her daughter, through a thin veil of truth
Then she kept on going
She kept on going
Through all of her smiles and her sadness
The call of the wild and her panic
She had more than a fighting chance
Though she thought it was magic
Cos all those little white things
They kept her black heart beating
She took a little white pill
Her daily bid for freedom, should she savour the thrill?
She gave in, defeated, and for a second she stayed still
Then she kept on going
She kept on going
Through all of her smiles and her sadness
The call of the wild and her panic
She had more than a fighting chance
Though she thought it was magic
Cos all those little white things
All those little white things
They kept her black heart beating
When all her colours were gone
How she prayed and believed it
But she never guessed right or sensed wrong
She got the best cards then cheated
And so the game went on
But for all of her sins, she had her little white things
She had more than a fighting chance
Though she thought it was magic
Cos all those little white things
All those little white things
Through all of her smiles and her sadness
The call of the wild and her panic
She had more than a fighting chance
Though she thought it was magic
Cos all those little white things
All those little white things
They kept her black heart beating
